As of August 3, 2026, an NWS (New World screwworm) inspection certificate is a requirement for pet dogs entering Mexico. The certificate is the two page bilingual form attached to this article. It must be completed and signed by hand, and it does not need to be uploaded anywhere for further endorsement.
Two veterinarians are involved. Your dog's regular veterinarian completes and signs the certificate. The Bermuda Government Veterinarian then endorses it. In Bermuda, the Government Veterinarian is the government accredited veterinarian for this purpose.
What you need to do
Print the certificate attached to this article. You can type into the fields first, but the signatures and stamp are a requirement to be added by hand, so it has to be printed.
Book two appointments in advance, in this order: your dog's regular veterinarian, then the Bermuda Government Veterinarian. Email animals@gov.bm to arrange the endorsement. Government Veterinarian appointments are available Monday to Friday during business hours only, so leave a clear business day between the two.
Time the first appointment so the date of issue and inspection falls within the five days before you enter Mexico. The form uses DD/MM/YYYY.
At the first appointment, your dog's regular veterinarian inspects your dog for screwworm, covering skin including interdigital areas and folds, ear canal, and oral, nasal, conjunctival, vulvar and preputial mucous membranes. They complete the clinic details, your details, your dog's details, the rabies vaccination type and date, and the parasite treatment details, then sign the first signature line in ink of a color other than black, because the form is printed in black.
The certificate confirms that treatment for internal and external parasites was given within the six months before departure, recording the treatment date, product brand name and active ingredients. If your Digital Pet Passport holds verified records, your veterinarian can transcribe them. If not, they will need to treat your dog at the appointment.
Take the completed, signed certificate to the Bermuda Government Veterinarian for endorsement. They add their full name, handwritten signature and stamp, also in ink of a colour other than black. A certificate without the stamp is not complete.
One certificate covers up to five dogs.
